Former Notre Dame running back Robert Hughes was signed by the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent on Monday.

Hughes, 5-foot-11, 235 pounds, began his pro career when he was signed as a free agent by the Chicago Bears in 2011. He played in four pre-season games with Chicago and was on the Bears’ practice squad the final two weeks of the season.

Last season, Hughes played in five games with the Colts, rushing once for five yards, and catching one pass for two yards. He was released by the Colts on April 30.

At Notre Dame, Hughes played in 47 games, rushing for 1,392 yards in 321 attempts. He scored 15 touchdowns and caught 43 passes for 370 yards.
