Pro football: Texans waive ex-ND standout Cierre Wood
Former Notre Dame running back Cierre Wood became one of three players placed on waivers Monday by the Houston Texans.
A report from the Houston Chronicle cited a source claiming Wood, defensive end Sam Montgomery and outside linebacker Willie Jefferson were waived for violating unspecified team rules at a team hotel in Kansas City on Saturday. All three players were inactive for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs.
Wood saw action in three games this season as a rookie for the Texans. He rushed for nine yards on three carries and returned one kickoff for 20 yards.
Previously the No. 3 running back for the Texans, Wood may have seen his role increase after Arian Foster left Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury. Wood rushed for 191 yards on 35 carries in the preseason.
Wood joined the Texans in the offseason as an undrafted free agent after finishing a career at Notre Dame as the program’s seventh-leading rusher with 450 carries for 2,447 yards.
