Pro football: Niklas to miss camp

Staff reports
ND Insider

The Arizona Cardinals opened their three-day minicamp in Tempe, Ariz. with intense competition at the tight end spot, and former Notre Dame player and recent draft pick Troy Niklas won’t be part of it — for now.

The second-round draft pick broke his right hand last week and head coach Bruce Arians says he’s out until training camp in late July.

Other candidates at tight end are free agent signee John Carlson, another former Notre Dame player, and returnees Rob Housler and Jake Ballard.
