Notre Dame football to open camp in Culver
Maybe this is the Notre Dame football team’s attempt at turning back the clock a bit.
The Irish announced Friday that they will spend the first week of their training camp – beginning Monday, Aug. 4 – working out at Culver Military Academy.
During the Lou Holtz regime, Notre Dame toiled on the parade grounds of the academy in 1995 and ’96.
Last year, the Irish spent their first week of camp – working without pads – at Shiloh Park Retreat and Conference Center in Marion, Ind. Besides conditioning, the experience was designed to be about team-building.
Culver Military Academy, just a 45-minute drive from South Bend, is hardly as remote as Shiloh Park. Still, the Irish won’t do any full-pad contact work until they return to the university Saturday, Aug. 9.
