SOUTH BEND -- Notre Dame safety Austin Collinsworth will miss Saturday's game against Rice.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Collinsworth was seen entering Notre Dame Stadium before the game on a golf cart with crutches in hand. A Notre Dame spokesperson confirmed the injury, but didn't provide details on the severity. The fifth-year senior was named a captain earlier this week.

Irish Illustrated, a member of the Rivals network, reported via an unnamed source that Collinsworth suffered a strained MCL and is likely out a couple weeks.

Junior Elijah Shumate, 6-1, 208, was announced as the replacement to start in Collinsworth's absence.
