Notre Dame may have been better off in the old BCS system.

That is if the first College Football Playoff selection committee rankings are any indication.

The Irish (6-1), ranked No. 6 in the AP poll, were 10th in the initial committee rankings.

The top four in order are Mississippi State, Florida State, Auburn and Ole Miss.

Oregon was fifth, followed by Alabama, TCU, Michigan State, Kansas State and ND.
