Tucked away in NBC Sports Network’s press release Thursday about its coverage of Saturday’s Blue-Gold Game was this nugget:

The 2015 Notre Dame football season opener with Texas on Sept. 5 at Notre Dame Stadium will be a night game. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. EDT.

A recent clause added to the ND television contract with NBC allows for three night games at Notre Dame Stadium in each two-year cycle, moving forward. That’s in addition to the annual Shamrock Series off-site home games. which are also telecast in prime time.

A Notre Dame official said there would be two night games in 2015 at ND Stadium. The USC game on Oct. 17 figures to be the other, but that has not been made official yet.

The other Irish home games are with Georgia Tech. UMass, Navy and Wake Forest.

NBC also announced the broadcast team for Saturday’s Blue-Gold Game on NBCSN: Dan Hicks (play-by-play), Doug Flutie (analyst) and former WSBT sports reporter Carolyn Manno (sideline).

Two years ago, Notre Dame's h;ome game against USC was one of the season's biggest recruiting weekends. The Irish open the 2015 season at night, Sept. 5 against Texas.
