Perhaps the only thing confusing about Notre Dame’s postseason destiny is the title sponsor associated with it.

The BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl?

CFP No. 8 Notre Dame (10-2) will face No. 7 Ohio State (11-1) in the BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl, Jan. 1 (1 p.m. EST) at Glendale, Ariz.

It will be the sixth-ever matchup between the Irish and the Buckeyes, and the first since a Fiesta Bowl clash to cap the 2005 season, won by the Buckeyes, 34-20. OSU leads the series, 3-2.

It will be ND’s fifth Fiesta Bowl appearance, losing games at the end of the 1994, 2000 and 2005 seasons, and beating West Virginia in the 1988 iteration to win the national championship.

The pairing was unveiled during ESPN’s four-hour reveal-a-thon on Sunday afternoon. The Irish were also in contention to play in the Peach Bowl, which was ultimately filled by Florida State and Houston.

The BattleFrog Obstacle Race Series, incidentally, is one of the nation’s fastest growing outdoor fitness events.
