Ishaq Williams turns tryout into roster spot with N.Y. Giants
Former Notre Dame defensive end Ishaq Williams’ comeback took a significant step Saturday, when the New York Giants added him to their roster following a mini-camp tryout.
Williams’ agent, Adam Sattler, confirmed the news Williams announced Saturday night on Twitter, adding that Williams was expected to sign a rookie free agent contract on Monday.
The 6-foot-4, 253-pound Brooklyn, N.Y., product last played in college in December of 2013 in ND’s 29-16 Pinstripe Bowl victory over Rutgers in Yankee Stadium. He was suspended in 2014 by Notre Dame for academic dishonesty.
Then, after ND reinstated Williams in the summer of 2015, the NCAA banned him from playing for or practicing with the Irish.
“Dreams really do come true and hard work pays off,” Williams wrote on Twitter and Instagram. “I'm thankful that the Giants organization believed in me and can't wait to show them they made a great decision.”
