Former Notre Dame safety Max Redfield's plea deal scrapped after failed drug test

Fulton County prosecutors Tuesday said a failed drug test forced them to call off a plea bargain with former Notre Dame football player Floyd "Max" Redfield, possibly ending his chance to avoid jail on gun and marijuana charges.

Redfield, 21, was one of five current and former Notre Dame players who were arrested Aug. 19 after a traffic stop along U.S. 31 near Rochester. He was later dismissed from the team.

He was scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty in November to misdemeanor charges of possession of handgun without a license and possession of marijuana.
