Suit claims Notre Dame closed sexual assault case so football player could transfer
SOUTH BEND — A former University of Notre Dame student is suing the school claiming it violated her privacy and closed a sexual assault case so a football player could transfer schools.
The woman, who is listed as Jane Doe in the complaint, is suing the university for violating Title IX of the Education Amendments Act, breach of contract and negligence and invasion of privacy.
In January 2016, Doe, who was a freshman, agreed to accompany an intoxicated Notre Dame student, listed as Jack Roe in the suit, to ensure he returned to his dorm safely, according to court documents. Once inside his room, Roe allegedly raped the woman.
A friend described Doe's situation to an assistant rector who passed the information along to the Title IX office without consent from Doe.
The woman was reluctant to participate in an investigation because she did not want her name disclosed, according to the court paperwork.
