Former Irish QB Malik Zaire will participate in Notre Dame's pro day

Malik Zaire is ready for a Notre Dame homecoming.

The 6-foot, 226-pound quarterback — who played four seasons in South Bend before making a graduate transfer to Florida last summer — confirmed to the Tribune on Friday that he will participate in Notre Dame's pro day on March 22. He will also participate in Florida's pro day.

Zaire played in just four games last season, making two starts. The Kettering, Ohio, native completed 57.1 percent of his passes, throwing for 349 yards with zero touchdowns and one interception for the Gators.

In 17 career games in South Bend, Zaire passed for 816 yards and six touchdowns without an interception and ran for 324 yards and two more scores.

Zaire's pro day return is far from unprecedented at Notre Dame. In 2016, former Irish quarterback Everett Golson — who had previously made a graduate transfer to Florida State — also participated in ND's pro day. Zaire's presence also provides an established quarterback to deliver footballs to Notre Dame NFL Draft hopefuls wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, tight end Durham Smythe and running back Josh Adams, all of whom have played and practiced with Zaire in the past.

Zaire earned a degree in film, television and theater from Notre Dame in Dec. 2016.
