It’s not the ideal way to start a stretch of four road games in five weeks.

CBS Sports announced Wednesday that Notre Dame’s Oct. 27 football matchup with Navy in San Diego will have an 8 p.m. (EDT) start time. It is technically a Navy home game and it will be televised nationally by CBS.

To mitigate the potential for jet lag and body-clock dysfunction, the Irish will stay over in San Diego Saturday night and fly home on Sunday. Typically, the team flies home shortly after the game, even when it plays on the West Coast.

The only game to be played at Notre Dame Stadium among the last five games of the 2018 season is a Nov. 10 date with Florida State. The Irish visit Northwestern on Nov. 3, play Syracuse in New York in a Shamrock Series game on Nov. 17 and finish with USC in Los Angeles on Nov. 24.

Notre Dame's Quenton Nelson (56) clears a path for teammate Brandon Wimbush (7) as he holds off Navy's Tyler Sayles (91) during Notre Dame's 24-17 win over Navy, Nov. 18 at Notre Dame Stadium. The two teams meet in prime time in San Diego this season.
