Jonathan Jones intends to play his final season of college football at Toledo.

The former Notre Dame linebacker completed a graduate transfer and enrolled at Toledo, Jones told the Tribune on Tuesday. He started classes with the Rockets last week.

The 6-foot, 225-pound Jones played in 38 games primarily on special teams in the last three seasons for Notre Dame.

After redshirting as a freshman, Jones recorded 10 tackles, one tackle for a loss and one pass breakup in 13 games as a sophomore in 2017, six tackles and one tackle for a loss in 12 games as a junior and one tackle in 13 games last season as a senior. Jones finished the 2019 season not listed on Notre Dame's two-deep depth chart at mike linebacker behind starter Drew White, a junior, and backup Bo Bauer, a sophomore.

Jones signed with Notre Dame out of Orlando (Fla.) Oak Ridge. 247Sports slated him as a four-star recruit and the No. 18 outside linebacker in the 2016 class. Rivals rated him as a three-star recruit and the No. 19 inside linebacker.

Because Jones graduated from Notre Dame in December, he is eligible to play immediately at Toledo later this year. Jones majored in film, television and theatre at Notre Dame.

Toledo lost two of its starting linebackers from 2019 to expired eligibility — Jordan Fisher (89 tackles) and DeDarallo Blue (70) — both of whom finished among the top four in tackles on the team. The Rockets return just two linebackers with more than 23 tackles last season: starter Saeed Holt (74 tackles) and reserve Daniel Bolden (39).
