Navy falls off Notre Dame's revised schedule; Clemson home game stays on Nov. 7

Notre Dame's 2020 football season, if it indeed ever happens, continues to get weirder and weirder.

After 93 consecutive seasons, Navy falls off the Irish schedule. The revised ND opponent lineup was revealed Thursday morning by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

ND's schedule, reconfigured because of various conferences' responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, is heavy with ACC teams — 10, up from the original six scheduled. The Irish, in fact, will compete for a conference championship in 2020.

But the ACC's plan is for each team to be able to play one non-conference game. For the Irish, that opponent is Western Michigan, which will visit Notre Dame Stadium on Sept. 19. The Navy game was originally scheduled for Aug. 29 in Dublin, Ireland, then shifted to Sept. 5 or 6 at Annapolis, Md.

ND (11-2 in 2019) now opens the season Sept. 12 at home against Duke. The Irish also close the regular season at home, Dec. 5 against Syracuse. The marquee game against presumptive No. 1 Clemson remains a Nov. 7 home game.

The Irish have a Friday night game on the schedule. Notre Dame will visit North Carolina on Nov. 27, the day after Thanksgiving.
