Notre Dame, USF set dates to complete three-game football series

When South Florida was added to Notre Dame’s 2020 football schedule, the Bulls made sure it wasn’t just a one-off game.

USF announced in August that the two schools would also meet twice more with each team receiving a home game. On Monday, both schools announced those two dates. USF will host Notre Dame in Tampa, Fla., on Sept. 15, 2029, and the Irish will play hosts on Sept. 13, 2031.

As the COVID-19 pandemic started to drastically shift college football schedules last year, Notre Dame agreed to temporarily join the ACC in football for the 2020 season to secure an 11-game schedule. Part of the agreement dictated that the Irish were allowed to play one non-conference game as long as it was played in Indiana.

USF helped fill that void with a game in Notre Dame Stadium on Sept. 19, which the Irish won 52-0. The two teams had only played each other once prior to 2020: a 23-20 USF victory in the 2011 season opener.

Notre Dame now has eight known opponents lined up in each of the 2029 and 2031 seasons, but most of those games don’t have dates publicly attached to them yet.

In 2029, the Irish are also set to play road games against Alabama (Sept. 1), Florida State and N.C. State and home games against Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Navy and Syracuse.

In 2031, Notre Dame is also slated to play road games against Clemson (Sept. 1), Virginia (Oct. 11) and North Carolina and home games against Florida (Nov. 15), N.C. State, Miami and Navy.

Extensions of Notre Dame’s annual matchups with Stanford and USC have yet to be announced beyond 2024 and 2026, respectively.
