Notre Dame senior guard Jerian Grant was not one of the 12 players named Saturday to represent the United States in the World University Games next month in Kazan, Russia.

Grant was one of four players released Saturday during the final day of tryouts at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Fellow Irish guard Eric Atkins also auditioned for the team and was released after the first two days of tryouts.

Among the current college players to earn roster spots were Indiana’s Yogi Ferrell and Will Sheehey and Michigan State’s Adreian Payne.

The team will be coached by Davidson’s Bob McKillop.
