Nash and Ayers lead Notre Dame men's basketball alumni to title
The underdog role was a comfortable fit for Notre Dame’s Fighting Alumni.
The group of former Irish upset Team Barstool, 72-68, in the championship of The Basketball Tournament at Case Gymnasium in Boston Saturday night.
Ty Nash scored 19, Ryan Ayers 15 and Rob Kurz 11 for the former Irish, who picked up $500,000 for winning the event.
The Fighting Alumni pledged to donate $100,000 of the winnings to Coaches vs. Cancer in honor of their former coach, Mike Brey.
The win Saturday was the fifth game in the tournament.
Dahntay Jones, who played at Duke, led Team Barstool with 21 points. Andre Barrett, from Seton Hall, had 13 points.
Chris Thomas added nine points, three steals and four assists for ND, which had eight turnovers to Team Barstool’s 11.
