BREAKING: Notre Dame freshman D.J. Harvey will miss Boston College game
Saturday was supposed to be the day that Notre Dame freshman swingman D.J. Harvey returned to the rotation after missing seven games with a bone bruise to his left knee.
Instead of getting back on the basketball court for the first time since Jan. 16, Harvey is out and and will not play against Boston College as originally planned. Harvey apparently reinjured his left during Friday night's practice at Conte Forum.
Harvey was moving laterally during the workout when he re-injured the knee.
"He's just not ready yet," Irish coach Mike Brey said during the Irish pre-game radio broadcast. "We've got to sit on that for a while. Maybe we get him back in a week."
News of Harvey's injury was first reported by Jon Rothstein of fanragsports.com.
Saturday will be the eighth game that Harvey has missed since suffering the non-contact injury in the first half of the Jan. 16 double-overtime loss to Louisville. He returned to practice this week and was said to have done well Thursday before the setback.
He was expected to come off the bench and play 18-20 minutes. Harvey is averaging 5.8 points and 2.9 rebounds in 19 games.
Notre Dame (15-11) entered Saturday's game having lost eight of its last 10. The Irish were 9-0 against the Eagles as Atlantic Coast Conference colleagues.
