Notre Dame softball: Korner, Winter honored

Notre Dame sophomore Emilee Koerner and junior Laura Winter swept the final Big East Conference weekly softball awards.

Koerner was named Big East Player of the Week for the third time this season and Winter earned her third Big East Pitcher of the Week honor.

The duo helped Notre Dame to a weekend series win over No. 9 Louisville, clinching the Irish’s 14th conference regular season title in 18 seasons.

Koerner batted .467 with two doubles, a home run, three RBIs and six runs scored.

Winter was 4-0 with a 1.75 earned run average on the mound and had a .533 batting average with three home runs, six RBIs and four runs scored at the plate.

No. 1-seed Notre Dame opens Big East Conference tournament play at 12:30 p.m. Thursday against No. 8-seeded Seton Hall at the USF Softball Field in Tampa, Fla.
