Notre Dame baseball: Jagielo Big East MVP

Notre Dame junior third baseman Eric Jagielo was named the Big East Player of the Year.

Jagielo led the league in on-base percentage (.500) and slugging (.643), was second in batting (.390) and tied for second in home runs (nine).

Jagielo, who is the fourth Notre Dame player to earn the conference’s top honor and first since Craig Cooper in 2006, was in the top 10 in nine offensive categories.

Senior pitcher Adam Norton and junior first baseman Trey Mancini also were named first team All-Big East.

Mancini led the conference in batting (.396), total bases (130), tied for first in hits (84) and triples (seven), and was second in slugging (.613).

Norton went 9-4 with a 2.31 ERA and is second in innings pitched, victories and fifth in ERA in conference play.

Junior reliever Dan Slania was a second-team All-Big East selection and sophomore outfielder Ryan Bull was named to the third team.
