Notre Dame cross country: Irish runners open strong

The Notre Dame men's and women's cross country teams kicked off the fall season with impressive individual victories at the Crusader Open in Valparaiso.

Sophomore Sydni Meunier won the women's title, while senior Patrick Lesiewicz claimed the men's crown at Sunset Hills Park.

The women claimed the first six spots as the Irish totaled 15 points to beat host Valparaiso (61) and Western Michigan (63).

The men's squad finished second, losing to IUPUI, 27-28.

LaPorte's Mitch Hubner finished fourth overall for IUPUI.
