Notre Dame swimming: ND women in front
The Notre Dame women's swim team dominated the opening day of the Hawkeye Classic in Iowa City Friday. The Irish won four of the six events to take a 28-point lead over second place Boise State heading into Saturday's action.
Emma Reaney (200 IM) and Allison Casareto (1-meter dive) won their events, as Reaney went 1:55.65 and Casareto scored 302.55 points. Reaney's time in the premims (1:55.18) was a meet and pool record in addition to an NCAA A cut. The Irish finished the night with a pair of relay victories -- the 200 free and 400 medley relay.
In the first race, seniors Christen McDonough and Kelly Ryan teamed with sophomore Catherine Galletti and Reany to win in 1:31.55. In the nightcap, Katie Miller, Reaney, Courtney Whyte and Ryan went 3:36.84 to set a meet record.
