Notre Dame swimming and diving: Irish men, women win invite
The Notre Dame men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs closed out the fall semester with first place finishes in the University of Iowa’s Hawkeye Invitational this weekend
The Irish women placed first among eight teams with 823 points to top runnerup Boise State by 80½ points, while the men took first in a four-team field with 1,228 12 points to host Iowa’s 977 1/2
Highlighting the women’s performance Sunday was a school record swim by junior Emma Reaney in the 200 breaststroke (2:05.85) that resulted in an NCAA A cut. The time was the fastest by any swimmer in the country this season.
Notre Dame’s Kelly Ryan was second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.75 while the 400 freestyle relay team was second with a 3:29.55 time.
Junior John Williamson won the 200 fly in an NCAA B cut time of 1:44.18. The Irish men also capped off the weekend with a sweep of every relay event by winning the 400 freestyle in a time of 2:56.89.
