Notre Dame swimming: Irish women open in third

Buoyed by a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, the Notre Dame women’s swimming team was tied for fourth after the first day of the ACC Championships in Greensboro, N.C.
Catherine Mulquin, Emma Reaney, Courtney Whyte and Kelly Ryan clocked a time of 1 minute, 37.61 seconds to help the Irish open the meet on a strong note.
Virginia set conference records in that event as well as the 800 freestyle relay to take the early team lead. Tied for second behind the Cavaliers (128) are North Carolina and North Carolina State (108).
Florida State and Notre Dame are even at 102, followed by Virginia Tech (96), Duke (94). Pittsburgh (90), Georgia Tech (74), Miami (72) and Boston College (66).
