Notre Dame tennis: Clemson tops ND

Monica Robinson scratched out a hard-fought, three-set win at No. 4 doubles but No. 15 Clemson took the doubles point and four singles matches to defeat Notre Dame, 5-2, Friday in South Bend.

Robinson downed Tristen Dewar 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 and Mary Closs picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win over Yuilynn Miao at No. 5 singles.

SINGLES: 1. Yana Koroleva (C) beat Britney Sanders, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (6); 2. Romy Koelzer (C) beat Quinn Gleason, 6-2, 6-4; 3. Beatrice Gumulya (C) beat Jennifer Kellner, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5); 4. Monica Robinson (ND) beat Tristen Dewar, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4; 5. Mary Closs (ND) beat Yuilynn Miao, 6-2, 6-3; 4. Jessy Rompies (C) beat Julie Vrabel, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

DOUBLES: 1. Koroleva-Gumulya (C) beat Gleason-Sanders, 8-4; 2. Dewar-Koelzer (C) vs. Kellner-Julie Sabacinski, 7-4, unfinished; 3. Maio-Rompies (C) beat Robinson-Closs, 8-2.
