Notre Dame baseball: No. 6 Wolfpack sweep Irish
The Notre Dame baseball team had its chances in a Saturday doubleheader at No. 6 North Carolina State to open Atlantic Coast Conference play, but the Wolfpack made key plays when needed and capitalized on a couple of Irish miscues to sweep the two-game set, 5-3 and 1-0, in Raleigh, N.C.
The Irish (5-8, 0-2 ACC) led twice in the first game against All-American lefty Carlos Rodon, taking early 1-0 and 3-1 leads. However, the Wolfpack rallied to score a pair of runs in the sixth and eighth innings to escape with the win.
In game two, starting pitcher Logan Jernigan hurled an gem, allowing only four hits in 7Ð innings to catapult State (12-2, 2-0 ACC) to the victory.
N.C. State and the Irish complete their three-game series at 2 p.m., Sunday.
