Notre Dame golf: Irish men 6th

Notre Dame’s men’s golf team opened its 2014 spring season on Monday and is in sixth place after the first two rounds of the Lamkin San Diego Classic at the San Diego Country Club. The Irish carded rounds of 297-293 (590, +14) to finish the first 36 holes five shots clear of seventh place Oregon State (288-307-595, +19).
Junior Tyler Wingo shot a 3-over par 75 in the first round and 3-under 69 in the second to share 11th place. Senior Niall Platt went 74-73 for 21st.
Defending tournament champion and co-host San Diego State took the overnight lead with a combined team score of 6-under 570 (283-287) to lead by two strokes over Southern California (286-286-572, -4).
