Notre Dame women's lacrosse: Sexton, Fortunato pace Irish attack on the road
Rachel Sexton had a career-high five points and Cortney Fortunato had her sixth hat trick in eight games as the Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team claimed a 13-6 victory at Richmond.
Sexton’s big day included three goals and a pair of assists. Fortunato added an assist for the Irish (6-2)
In all, nine different Irish players factored into the scoring and five of them had both a goal and an assist.
Goalkeeper Allie Murray made 12 saves, leading an Irish defense that held its opponent to a single-digit goal total for the sixth time this season.
The victory came hours after Fortunato garnered several accolades for her play last week. The freshman was named the Brine Player of the Week by Inside Lacrosse and the ACC’s Offensive Player of the Week.
Fortunato netted a hat trick in each of Notre Dame’s wins last week over then-No. 4 Northwestern and Louisville.
Also earning ACC recognition was Murray, who was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Murray had a nine-save effort in the landmark win at Northwestern where the Wildcats were held to eight goals or fewer in a home game for just the fourth time since 2006.
Against Louisville, Murray played only the first half, making five saves.
