Notre Dame softball: Irish, Wolfpack split
Jenna Simon slapped a run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh to give Notre Dame a 3-2 win Tuesday in the opener of an Atlantic Coast Conference doubleheader over North Carolina State. Simon’s hit scored freshman Karley Wester from second base.
North Carolina State (30-14, 14-7 ACC) took the second game, 6-2.
Wester led all Notre Dame (30-10, 10-5) players at the plate with a 5-for-7 (.714) afternoon, adding an RBI, three stolen bases and two runs. Sophomore Micaela Arizmendi contributed a pair of hits, including her team-high tying 10th home run of the season, while junior All-American Emilee Koerner also chipped in two singles and a run scored.
Senior pitcher Laura Winter (19-4) earned the victory in game one, tossing a complete game seven-hitter.
