Notre Dame baseball: Maryland outlasts Irish
In a battle of two aces, Maryland got the better of Notre Dame's Pat Connaughton as the Terrapins scored two early runs and Jake Stinnett made that stand up in a 2-0 decision.
Connaughton (1-5) threw a complete game, giving up two runs in the first inning, scattering five hits, walking two and striking out four.
But Stinnett (5-6) was too dominant, allowing just four hits while striking out 13 and walking three.
Neither pitcher gave up an extra-base hit, and Maryland's Jose Cuas was the only player to collect two hits.
Cuas did the damage in the first inning with a two-out, two-run single that plated LaMonte Wade and Brandon Lowe.
Notre Dame (17-28, 4-18 ACC) and Maryland (26-19, 10-14) resume their series at 2 p.m. Saturday. Fans can follow the game on WHME (103.1 FM).
