Notre Dame softball: Arizmendi, Winter lead Irish
Micaela Arizmendi's three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted second-seeded Notre Dame to a 3-0 win over Boston in the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship in College Park, Md., Thursday.
The homer was Arizmendi's 16th of the season and sent the Fighting Irish (38-10) into Friday's 3:30 p.m. semifinal game against the winner of Thursday night's late game between third-seeded Virginia Tech and sixth-seeded Syracuse.
Senior right-hander Laura Winter (26-4), out-pitched Jordan Weed.
Winter retired the final 14 batters to finish with a two-hitter. She did not allow a walk while striking out nine, and only two Eagles made it as far as second base.
Weed (11-9) took a one-hitter into the bottom of the sixth. After Emilee Koerner drew a two-out walk, and Katey Haus doubled, Arizmendi, homered to right center. B.C. finished 30-24.
