Notre Dame softball: Irish season ends with 1-0 loss to UCLA
LOS ANGELES — Notre Dame came up empty on two bases-loaded situations and No. 3 UCLA knocked the Irish from the NCAA Los Angeles Regional at Easton Stadium Sunday afternoon, 1-0.
UCLA, which pushed across a run in the fourth, handed ND both regional losses.
Notre Dame (41-13), which was limited to four hits by Ally Carda (31-4) and Paige McDuffee, loaded the bases with two outs in the third and seventh.
In the third, UCLA third baseman Mysha Sataraka made her second great stab of the game to rob Katey Haus of a base hit.
Laura Winter (29-7) suffered the loss. She yielded six hits and five walks and struck out four.
Leadoff hitter Karley Wester had two hits for Notre Dame. Each team stranded 10.
The Irish set program records with a .357 batting average, 533 hits and 107 doubles, and were making their 16th straight appearance in an NCAA regional.
UCLA moves on with a 51-6 mark.
