Notre Dame soccer: Besler makes U.S. roster

While the big story to come out of Thursday’s World Cup roster announcement was the exclusion of United States’ all-time leading scorer Landon Donovan, there was also Notre Dame storyline.

Former All-American Matt Besler became the first Irish product to be selected to the World Cup roster.

Besler, a central defender with Sporting Kansas City, has made 14 appearances for the United States since debuting in January 2013, including six World Cup qualifiers and all three knockout round games en route to last year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup championship.
