Irish hockey out of tourney
Notre Dame’s hockey season came to an end Sunday as the Irish fell 6-4 to UMass Lowell in the final game of a best-of-three Hockey East quarterfinal series at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Mass.
Notre Dame defenseman Robbie Russo scored twice and had a pair of assists.
The Irish finish 18-19-5 while UMass Lowell advances to the league semifinals with a 20-11-6 record.
UMass Lowell scored on three of its first four shots of the game to set the tone, taking a 4-1 lead in the opening period.
Peter Schneider and Jordan Gross had goals in the final period for the Irish.
