Notre Dame’s loss is the Chicago Blackhawks’ gain.
On Saturday, the NHL team announced it had agreed to terms with sophomore star Vinnie Hinostroza, a native of Bartlett, Ill., on a three-year contract.
The Blackhawks’ sixth-round selection (169th overall) in the 2012 National Hockey League Draft, Hinostroza concluded the 2014-15 season with a team-high 44 points (11 goals, 33 assists) in 42 games for the Irish.
The 20-year-old ranked second on the club with 116 shots on goal, shared the team lead with three game-winners and paced Notre Dame with 16 power-play points (four goals, 12 assists) during his sophomore campaign. He was named a 2015 First-Team All-Hockey East selection and was fourth nationally with 33 assists.
