Wolverines end Irish season

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan completed its dominance of its NCAA softball regional Sunday by stopping Notre Dame, 6-2, Sunday afternoon.

No. 23 Notre Dame (43-13) finished its 18th straight NCAA Championship season with an eighth straight 40-win campaign.

The Irish were making their 21st NCAA Regional appearances in 28 seasons as a varsity program.

Michigan improved to 49-5. Notre Dame's runs were the first it allowed in the regional.

ND's Ali Wester led all players with a 3-for-3 day, adding an RBI and a stolen base.

Karley Wester added a 2-for-4 effort with a solo home run, stolen base and two runs scored.

Notre Dame’s 540 hits in 2016 were the second most in program history, marking the third straight year the Irish logged 500 or more hits in a season.

Micaela Arizmendi added a single in her final collegiate game, and tied Ali Wester for the Notre Dame tournament lead with four RBIs.

Arizmendi graduates with the second highest slugging percentage (.660), second most RBIs (191) and the third most doubles (53) and home runs (38) in program history.
