Notre Dame improved to 3-1-1 by rallying with a clutch third-period goal from Jordan Gross to earn a 3-3 tie with Penn State in the first of a two-game series with the Nittany Lions at the Compton Family Ice Arena Friday.

The Irish were trailing, 3-1 late in the second period, but an Andrew Oglevie goal at 18:47 gave Notre Dame momentum heading into the final period.

That led to Gross' matching score at 12:28.

Cal Peterson posted 29 saves for the Irish, and Peyton Jones had 30 for Penn State.
