ND men's soccer rallies past Wildcats
The ghosts of past Northwestern losses nearly came back to haunt No. 9 Notre Dame, but the Irish men's soccer team rallied for a 2-1 overtime victory at Alumni Stadium in South Bend Tuesday night.
The Irish dominated much of the possession in the early going, but it was Northwestern's Tommy Katsiyannis sneaking one past Irish goalie Chris Hubbard at the 36th minute mark to put the Wildcats on top before halftime.
The Irish, who came in 1-4-4 against Northwestern in the previous nine meetings, finally broke through when Felicien Dumas connected on a header in the 80th minute to tie the game.
In overtime, Jon Gallagher scored a dramatic diving header to win the game for the Irish, just their second win over Northwestern since 2008.
The Irish pumped 17 shots on goal, while the Wildcats had five shots.
The Irish improved to 7-2-1 and remained 2-1-1 in the ACC. They travel to Clemson Friday night.
