SOUTH BEND — The temporary ice rink in Notre Dame Stadium will host one more hockey game, the Irish vs. the Michigan Wolverines at 4:30 p.m. (EST) Saturday, before the rink disappears like snow during a January thaw.

The game was moved from its original 3:30 start time over concerns for player safety as it relates to projected sunny conditions.

All premium doors and media will call will now open at 2:30 p.m., while general gates will open at 3:30 p.m.

The college match comes four days after the NHL Winter Classic, in which the Boston Bruins beat the Chicago Blackhawks Tuesday in the first-ever professional hockey game in the football stadium.

Reserve tickets to attend the hockey game start at $20 per seat.

Reserve parking lot passes for the game also are available for purchase.

Saturday’s contest will be the third outdoor game in the modern era of Notre Dame hockey, according to the university. The Irish took a 2-1 decision over Miami (Ohio) on Feb. 18, 2013, at Soldier Field in Chicago, before falling to Boston College, 4-3, a season later at Fenway Park in Boston.

Prior to the program first gaining varsity status in 1968, the Irish club hockey team played its games outdoors at Howard Park in South Bend. The original site for hockey at Notre Dame, dating back as far as 1912, was outdoors at the current site of Badin Hall and on Saint Mary's Lake on campus.

Notre Dame and Michigan have met 140 times, with the Wolverines holding a 76-59-5 edge in the series. The teams met five times last season, Notre Dame's first year competing in the Big Ten. The Irish swept a two-game series in January before Michigan completed a sweep of their own in February.

Fans watch the Chicago Blackhawks take on the Boston Bruins during the NHL Winter Classic Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend.
