Former Notre Dame women's basketball legend Ruth Riley, who led the Irish to a national championship in 2001, announced her retirement from the WNBA.

Riley, who played high school basketball at North Miami, played 13 seasons in the WNBA.

Riley was originally drafted by the Miami Sol, and then played on two WNBA championship teams with the Detroit Shock. She also played for the San Antonio Stars, the Chicago Sky, and the Atlanta Dream.

Notre Dame honored Riley, the 2001 NCAA Women's Final Four Most Outstanding Player, by making her part of the Irish Ring of Honor. She is the only Irish women's basketball player to have more than 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career.
