Wednesday, March 4 first round
Game 1: (13) Wake Forest 69, (12) Boston College 53: Dearica Hamby keyed a second-half 11-2 run by Wake Forest that gave it the lead for good in the opening game. Hamby finished with 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists for Wake Forest (12-19). Amber Campbell added 12 points for the Deacons. Boston College (13-17), which made just four of 18 shots in the second half.
Game 2: (15) Virginia Tech 57, (10) North Carolina State 56: Hannah Young’s long jumper with 0.5 seconds remaining ended the Hokies’ nine-game losing streak and its 15-game losing streak all-time to N.C. State (16-14). Vanessa Panousis had 19 points and eight assists to lead Virginia Tech, Sidney Cook added 12 points, Kelsey Conyers had 10 and Young finished with nine, all in the final 7:02. Miah Spencer, who led the Wolfpack with 19 points, had given her team a 56-55 lead with 15 seconds remaining with a 3-point play.
Game 3: (11) Georgia Tech 80, (14) Clemson 53: The Yellow Jackets (18-13) survived an off night by Kaela Davis (3 points, 5 personals) with 23 points from Aaliyah Whiteside and a career-high 20 points with 14 points from Roddreka Rogers. Georgia Tech finished the first half on a 21-6 run to lead 43-21 at the break. Chelsea Lindsay had 12 points to lead the Tigers (9-21), who lost their 16th straight game.
