Notre Dame women's hoops receives first 2017 commitment

Mikayla Vaughn, a 6-foot-3 inside presence for Friends’ Central School near Philadelphia, has committed to play basketball at Notre Dame beginning in the fall of 2017.

In 78 high school games, Vaughn nearly carries a double-double average – 15.8 points, 9.6 rebounds. According to a report, she also has a 3.9 GPA.

A year ago, Vaughn was ranked 20th overall and No. 4 at forward in ESPN’s Hoopgurlz Recruiting Rankings. However, she is no longer ranked.

Sunday, she tweeted, “Extremely blessed to announce that I have decided to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Notre Dame. Thank you to all of the school(s) that have taken the time to recruit me because it means a lot to my family and me. Can’t wait to be a part of the Fighting Irish.”

Vaughn is the first of Notre Dame’s 2017 commitments.
