Brooklyn guard Jordan Nixon commits to Notre Dame women's hoops

Less than three months after the Notre Dame women’s basketball program lost elite guard prospect Jenna Brown to a change of heart, Brooklyn (N.Y.) point guard Jordan Nixon is all in with the Irish.

The nation’s No. 59 prospect, per ESPN Hoopgurlz, verbally committed over the weekend, a few weeks after making her official visit Labor Day weekend.

Georgia, Ohio State and Virginia were reportedly the other finalists for the 5-foot-8 Nixon, a former high school teammate of Irish freshman forward Danielle Patterson at Mary Louis Academy. Nixon, who transferred into MLA right before her junior season, averaged 20.1 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists per game last season.

The senior-to-be joins three other top 100 players in the recruiting class of 2018 — guards 5-10 Abby Prohaska of Lakota West High near Cincinnati and 5-11 Katlyn Gilbert of Heritage Christian School in Indianapolis, along with 6-3 center Danielle Cosgrove of Sachem (N.Y.) East High School.

The top point guard nationally in the 2019 class — Anaya Peoples of Danville, Ill, — committed to the Irish in June.

Brown, from Atlanta, decommitted from ND in mid-July and committed to Stanford less than a week later.

The earliest members of the 2018 class can sign binding national letters-of-intent during the early period next month, Nov. 8-15.
